As the Whites defeated Plymouth Argyle 3-0, manager Wayne Rooney admitted that his team had a “bad day” against Leeds United.
Rooney’s team has now lost seven of its eight away games this season after losing to goals from Daniel James, Joel Piroe, and Brenden Aaronson in a seven-minute first-half burst.

“The game was over after five or seven crazy minutes in which we give up three goals. “Very disappointed in the outcome,” he remarked.

“Leeds is a terrific team that is challenging to play against. From our perspective, we’re working to get better. Young guys are coming on, and the big club has a nice vibe. We had a rough day today; let’s move on and focus on Tuesday’s game.”

Rooney said that he was already considering Plymouth’s matchup with Portsmouth at Home Park the following week after Leeds’ quick-fire triple.

“I think there’s elements of luck, certainly on two of the goals,” the 39-year-old stated in response to the type of goals his squad let up. Compared to the goals, we have to defend the box better.

“In the hopes of scoring a goal, we brought in Andre Grey. We knew it would be extremely challenging the longer the second half lasted.

“If you ask their management, I’m positive that Leeds will fail if they don’t get promoted. That must be the message he’s receiving.

“No doubt they’ll be one of the teams fighting for the top two places.”

During his post-match press conference, the former England, Manchester United, and Everton striker smiled and remarked, “I didn’t hear any chants.” The home crowd at Elland Road also repeatedly sang at the former player.

“Maybe they can sing a bit louder,” he continued.
